Tips:

Tip 1: (Make it faster)
- Erase all your icons on your background and remove everything from the startup menu.
Why? Because you have all the shortcuts on the side of the screen and on the keyboard.
Thereby your HP becomes 30% faster on desktop refreshment. (Can work with other devices)
Tip 2: (Change the dictionary's language)
- Change the language of your dictionary. For this, go to your desktop computer (you need
to have MSOffice installed on it) and go to Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\Proof\ and from there take the language of your choice. For example, Mssp2_fr.lex
is the French dictionary. Now copy that file into a temporary directory on the desktop
computer and rename it to Mssp2_en.lex, Now copy the file to your HPC's windows directory
and when prompted to overwrite, say YES. (Works with any other devices)
Tip 3: (Increasing batteries' life)
- To increase the batteries' life, minimize the brightness of the screen. Now you can use
them up to 8 hours. (Can work with other devices)
Tip 4: (Soft Reset)
- To do a soft reset, simply press these keys : Ctrl + ON/OFF + Backspace. (Will only work
with the HP620LX)
Tip 5: (Checking the system)
- To check your system, press : Ctrl + ON/OFF + Backspace + S. (Will only work with the
HP620LX)
Tip 6: (Using the Winkey)
- If you had enough of going to the Start menu each time you wanted to open Explorer or
the Control Panel, now you can simply use a key combination: Winkey + E = Explorer ,
Winkey + C = Control Panel , Winkey + R = Run menu. (Works with any other devices)
Tip 7: (Shortcut keys on the HP)
- You want to change the shortcuts keys on the machine? No problem, MarkG has excellent FREE programs, download it HERE!. (Will only work with the HP620LX)
Tip 8: (Colors)
- You hate those standard colors, don't you? MarkG
has your solution, download it HERE!. (Works with any other
devices)
Tip 9: (Startup Screen)
- To Change the Startup Screen's BMP just copy a 256 Color BMP into the \Windows directory
and rename it Startup.bmp. Now when you restart the new Picture will take the place
of the original. Want to get it back ? Simply delete it and next time you
restart the default is copied from ROM. (Works with any other devices)

Tip 10: (PowerPoint)
- If you download any powerpoint file *.ppt into the palmtop, most of us will not be able
to view the fonts easily, even if we have zoomed in. If you want to view it on the go,
before download it into the palmtop, go to your mobile devices, tools, file conversion,
click Desktop -> Device, highlight Microsoft Powerpoint Presentation, edit and select
Type to Pocket PowerPoint ( Compact ) (*.ppv).The next time when you download a .ppt file
over to your palmtop, you will be able to view your presentation easily. The main reason
is that by default, the option is set to 640X240 at High Res. Therefore if you want
to use the VGA card and output to the monitor it will look nice but on the palmtop screen
itself it will look terrible, therefore when we switch to compact version, it will look
nice on the palmtop screen but will look quite bad on the monitor, i.e. vice versa. So it
depend if you want to view it on the palmtop screen, select the compact version and if you
want to display on the monitor, use the high resolution option. (works with other devices)

Tip 11: (Quick Connect to Desktop)
- You can start communications with the desktop quickly by tipping together
the "win" key and the "minus" key. (Works with 620 and
680)

Tip 12: (Run ICQ on 680(e)/690(e))
- Well the task is not easy. You usually receive a problem that you cannot
register yourself. To bypass this, you have to find somebody with a 620LX
or 660LX unit. Install ICQ on it, register it. Now copy the whole folder from
your 620/660LX to your Jornada. Then recopy the whole registry entry from
the 620/660's registry to your Jornada's registry. Now run ICQ and cross your
fingers...
Tip 13: (Backup)
- When using the handheld, it is possible that you loose all data through
a reset, so if you buy a pcmcia compactflash-adapter(20$) and a compactflash
memory card, the problem is solved. Data gets permanently stored on such cards,
no extra power required. It uses the handheld's battery only for writing or
reading. The compactflash cards are available from 8MB through 1GB! (The 32MB
version costs about 30$ and the 1GB version costs about 500$)
